Killing Floor Weapons: Complete KF1 Arsenal Guide
Killing Floor 1 has a compact but surprisingly deep arsenal. Most weapons are tied to a perk, but the best teams still buy across perk lines when the situation calls for it: a Medic can carry a Crossbow, a Commando can buy a healing sidearm, and almost everyone benefits from knowing when a shotgun or explosive is the right answer.
This page is a weapon hub for the original Killing Floor. It focuses on practical gameplay value, with real-world firearm notes where they help identify the weapon.
Quick Picks
| Situation | Recommended weapons | Why they work |
|---|---|---|
| Early waves | Lever Action Rifle, Pump Shotgun, Bullpup, 9mm | Cheap, available quickly, enough damage for trash zeds |
| Large zeds | Crossbow, Hunting Shotgun, AA12, M99, Pipe Bombs | Burst damage and stumble control matter more than ammo volume |
| Boss wave | M99, AA12, SCAR, FN FAL, Pipe Bombs, LAW | Sustained burst and pre-placed damage shorten the fight |
| Team support | MP7M, MP5M, M7A3, Schneidzekk | Healing darts keep the lane stable without forcing the Medic into melee |
| Trash clearing | SCAR, AK-47, Flamethrower, M32, Katana | Efficient wave control prevents the team from being surrounded |
Handguns
| In-game name | Real-world basis | Best use |
|---|---|---|
| 9mm Tactical | Beretta M9A1 style sidearm | Default backup, crawler control, emergency headshots |
| MK23 | Heckler & Koch Mark 23 Mod 0 | Strong Sharpshooter sidearm with good headshot value |
| Handcannon | Desert Eagle Mark XIX style pistol | High-damage pistol for Sharpshooter and backup Scrake damage |
| .44 Magnum | Smith & Wesson Model 29 style revolver | Mid-price precision pistol with good stopping power |
| Flare Revolver | Modified Colt 1851 Navy concept | Firebug utility, light trash control, style pick |
Handguns are valuable because they are weight-efficient. Dual pistols are fun and can be strong, but they also punish bad reload timing. Keep at least one reliable sidearm for moments when the primary weapon is empty.
SMGs And Medic Weapons
| In-game name | Real-world basis | Best use |
|---|---|---|
| MP7M | Heckler & Koch MP7 | Fast healing darts, early Medic weapon, high rate of fire |
| MP5M | Heckler & Koch MP5A4 | Stable Medic primary with better handling than the MP7 |
| Schneidzekk | TDI Vector style medic gun | Aggressive Medic loadouts and close-range healing support |
| Tommy Gun | Thompson SMG family | Commando flavor pick, high magazine capacity, DLC/community style |
| MAC-10 | Ingram MAC-10 | Firebug sidearm, decent early fire application |
For Medic, the gun is often less important than dart uptime. Carrying multiple medic weapons lets you rotate darts and heal faster than waiting on one recharge cycle.
Shotguns
| In-game name | Real-world basis | Best use |
|---|---|---|
| Shotgun | Benelli M3 Super 90 style shotgun | Early Support weapon and cheap lane control |
| Hunting Shotgun | Double-barreled coach gun | Huge burst, Scrake setups, emergency Fleshpound damage |
| Combat Shotgun | Benelli M4 Super 90 style shotgun | Reliable mid-tier Support weapon |
| AA12 | AA-12 automatic shotgun | Late-game Support DPS and panic button |
| HSG-1 | Kel-Tec KSG style shotgun | High-capacity Support option |
| Jackhammer | Pancor Jackhammer concept | Heavy automatic shotgun option |
| Trenchgun | Winchester Model 1897 style shotgun | Fire shotgun role, crowd control |
Support Specialist lives or dies by reload discipline. The AA12 deletes threats, but the Hunting Shotgun remains one of the best value weapons in the game because the alt-fire burst is so efficient.
Rifles And Carbines
| In-game name | Real-world basis | Best use |
|---|---|---|
| Lever Action Rifle | Winchester Model 1894 style rifle | Cheap Sharpshooter starter, excellent headshot economy |
| Lee-Enfield | Lee-Enfield No. 4 Mk I | Classic rifle option with strong precision flavor |
| Bullpup | L22A2 style carbine | Early Commando weapon, falls off later |
| AK-47 | Romanian AIMR style rifle | Mid-game Commando bridge weapon |
| M4 | Colt M4A1 style carbine | Familiar assault rifle, but often outclassed |
| MKb42 | MKb 42(H) style rifle | Historical assault rifle option |
The rifle category rewards accuracy more than spray. If a weapon cannot reliably remove trash with controlled headshots, sell it before late waves.
Battle Rifles And Snipers
| In-game name | Real-world basis | Best use |
|---|---|---|
| FN FAL | FN FAL G Series | Commando burst damage and medium-zed cleanup |
| SCAR-H | FN SCAR-H Mk 17 | Best all-round Commando rifle for precision trash control |
| M14 EBR | Mk 14 Mod 0 EBR | High-skill Sharpshooter DPS |
| M7A3 | Fictional medic battle rifle concept | Late Medic support weapon |
| M99 AMR | Barrett M99 | Expensive boss and large-zed delete button |
| Crossbow | Tactical crossbow | Cost-efficient Scrake control and reusable ammo |
The Crossbow, SCAR, FN FAL, M14, and M99 are the core precision weapons most experienced teams discuss. Which one is “best” depends on perk level, team composition, and whether you need economy or burst.
Explosives
| In-game name | Real-world basis | Best use |
|---|---|---|
| Grenade | L2A2-style fragmentation grenade | Emergency crowd clear |
| M79 | M79 grenade launcher | Cheap explosive wave control |
| M32 | Milkor MGL style launcher | Demolitions primary, strong trash and medium-zed clear |
| LAW | LAW 80 style launcher | Boss and large-zed burst |
| Pipe Bomb | Improvised explosive | Pre-placed Fleshpound and Patriarch damage |
| Hand Mortar | Compact grenade launcher concept | Event/DLC explosive option |
Explosives are strongest when the team plans around them. Pipe Bombs are not random traps: place them before a predictable big-zed path or boss phase.
Best Weapons By Perk
| Perk | Reliable core | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Field Medic | MP7M, MP5M, M7A3, Schneidzekk | Rotate darts, do not chase damage at the cost of healing |
| Support Specialist | Hunting Shotgun, Combat Shotgun, AA12 | Burst large zeds, manage reload windows |
| Sharpshooter | Lever Action, Crossbow, M14 EBR, M99 | Headshots and target priority matter more than volume |
| Commando | AK-47, SCAR-H, FN FAL | Keep trash off the team and extend Zed Time |
| Berserker | Katana, Fire Axe, Buzzsaw Bow | Melee control and large-zed stun setups |
| Firebug | Flamethrower, MAC-10, Trenchgun, Husk Launcher | Excellent trash control, risky against large zeds |
| Demolitions | M79, M32, Pipe Bombs, LAW | Prevent wipes with planned explosive damage |

Buying Rules That Still Hold Up
- Sell weak starter weapons before they trap your economy.
- Buy armor before a greed weapon on high difficulty.
- Do not rage Scrakes and Fleshpounds without a takedown plan.
- Carry at least one reliable backup for reload downtime.
- Let each perk do its job instead of everyone buying the same gun.
