Killing Floor Weapons: Complete KF1 Arsenal Guide

Killing Floor 1 has a compact but surprisingly deep arsenal. Most weapons are tied to a perk, but the best teams still buy across perk lines when the situation calls for it: a Medic can carry a Crossbow, a Commando can buy a healing sidearm, and almost everyone benefits from knowing when a shotgun or explosive is the right answer.

This page is a weapon hub for the original Killing Floor. It focuses on practical gameplay value, with real-world firearm notes where they help identify the weapon.

Quick Picks

SituationRecommended weaponsWhy they work
Early wavesLever Action Rifle, Pump Shotgun, Bullpup, 9mmCheap, available quickly, enough damage for trash zeds
Large zedsCrossbow, Hunting Shotgun, AA12, M99, Pipe BombsBurst damage and stumble control matter more than ammo volume
Boss waveM99, AA12, SCAR, FN FAL, Pipe Bombs, LAWSustained burst and pre-placed damage shorten the fight
Team supportMP7M, MP5M, M7A3, SchneidzekkHealing darts keep the lane stable without forcing the Medic into melee
Trash clearingSCAR, AK-47, Flamethrower, M32, KatanaEfficient wave control prevents the team from being surrounded

Handguns

In-game nameReal-world basisBest use
9mm TacticalBeretta M9A1 style sidearmDefault backup, crawler control, emergency headshots
MK23Heckler & Koch Mark 23 Mod 0Strong Sharpshooter sidearm with good headshot value
HandcannonDesert Eagle Mark XIX style pistolHigh-damage pistol for Sharpshooter and backup Scrake damage
.44 MagnumSmith & Wesson Model 29 style revolverMid-price precision pistol with good stopping power
Flare RevolverModified Colt 1851 Navy conceptFirebug utility, light trash control, style pick

Handguns are valuable because they are weight-efficient. Dual pistols are fun and can be strong, but they also punish bad reload timing. Keep at least one reliable sidearm for moments when the primary weapon is empty.

SMGs And Medic Weapons

In-game nameReal-world basisBest use
MP7MHeckler & Koch MP7Fast healing darts, early Medic weapon, high rate of fire
MP5MHeckler & Koch MP5A4Stable Medic primary with better handling than the MP7
SchneidzekkTDI Vector style medic gunAggressive Medic loadouts and close-range healing support
Tommy GunThompson SMG familyCommando flavor pick, high magazine capacity, DLC/community style
MAC-10Ingram MAC-10Firebug sidearm, decent early fire application

For Medic, the gun is often less important than dart uptime. Carrying multiple medic weapons lets you rotate darts and heal faster than waiting on one recharge cycle.

Shotguns

In-game nameReal-world basisBest use
ShotgunBenelli M3 Super 90 style shotgunEarly Support weapon and cheap lane control
Hunting ShotgunDouble-barreled coach gunHuge burst, Scrake setups, emergency Fleshpound damage
Combat ShotgunBenelli M4 Super 90 style shotgunReliable mid-tier Support weapon
AA12AA-12 automatic shotgunLate-game Support DPS and panic button
HSG-1Kel-Tec KSG style shotgunHigh-capacity Support option
JackhammerPancor Jackhammer conceptHeavy automatic shotgun option
TrenchgunWinchester Model 1897 style shotgunFire shotgun role, crowd control

Support Specialist lives or dies by reload discipline. The AA12 deletes threats, but the Hunting Shotgun remains one of the best value weapons in the game because the alt-fire burst is so efficient.

Rifles And Carbines

In-game nameReal-world basisBest use
Lever Action RifleWinchester Model 1894 style rifleCheap Sharpshooter starter, excellent headshot economy
Lee-EnfieldLee-Enfield No. 4 Mk IClassic rifle option with strong precision flavor
BullpupL22A2 style carbineEarly Commando weapon, falls off later
AK-47Romanian AIMR style rifleMid-game Commando bridge weapon
M4Colt M4A1 style carbineFamiliar assault rifle, but often outclassed
MKb42MKb 42(H) style rifleHistorical assault rifle option

The rifle category rewards accuracy more than spray. If a weapon cannot reliably remove trash with controlled headshots, sell it before late waves.

Battle Rifles And Snipers

In-game nameReal-world basisBest use
FN FALFN FAL G SeriesCommando burst damage and medium-zed cleanup
SCAR-HFN SCAR-H Mk 17Best all-round Commando rifle for precision trash control
M14 EBRMk 14 Mod 0 EBRHigh-skill Sharpshooter DPS
M7A3Fictional medic battle rifle conceptLate Medic support weapon
M99 AMRBarrett M99Expensive boss and large-zed delete button
CrossbowTactical crossbowCost-efficient Scrake control and reusable ammo

The Crossbow, SCAR, FN FAL, M14, and M99 are the core precision weapons most experienced teams discuss. Which one is “best” depends on perk level, team composition, and whether you need economy or burst.

Explosives

In-game nameReal-world basisBest use
GrenadeL2A2-style fragmentation grenadeEmergency crowd clear
M79M79 grenade launcherCheap explosive wave control
M32Milkor MGL style launcherDemolitions primary, strong trash and medium-zed clear
LAWLAW 80 style launcherBoss and large-zed burst
Pipe BombImprovised explosivePre-placed Fleshpound and Patriarch damage
Hand MortarCompact grenade launcher conceptEvent/DLC explosive option

Explosives are strongest when the team plans around them. Pipe Bombs are not random traps: place them before a predictable big-zed path or boss phase.

Best Weapons By Perk

PerkReliable coreNotes
Field MedicMP7M, MP5M, M7A3, SchneidzekkRotate darts, do not chase damage at the cost of healing
Support SpecialistHunting Shotgun, Combat Shotgun, AA12Burst large zeds, manage reload windows
SharpshooterLever Action, Crossbow, M14 EBR, M99Headshots and target priority matter more than volume
CommandoAK-47, SCAR-H, FN FALKeep trash off the team and extend Zed Time
BerserkerKatana, Fire Axe, Buzzsaw BowMelee control and large-zed stun setups
FirebugFlamethrower, MAC-10, Trenchgun, Husk LauncherExcellent trash control, risky against large zeds
DemolitionsM79, M32, Pipe Bombs, LAWPrevent wipes with planned explosive damage

Buying Rules That Still Hold Up

  1. Sell weak starter weapons before they trap your economy.
  2. Buy armor before a greed weapon on high difficulty.
  3. Do not rage Scrakes and Fleshpounds without a takedown plan.
  4. Carry at least one reliable backup for reload downtime.
  5. Let each perk do its job instead of everyone buying the same gun.
