Killing Floor Prototype
Before it got turned into a retail game, Killing Floor was a total conversion mod for Unreal Tournament 2004 created by Shatterline Productions, a team consisting of Alex Quick, Mark “Marco” Welch, zYnthetic, and others.
This page details one or more prototype versions of Killing Floor.

Differences From Retail
Stuff from the mod that remained and was used in retail but received significant changes in the transition.
Assets
Character
There were a few characters who came from the mod to retail, and they pretty much only shared the same names with their physical appearances being very different.
Lt. Masterson
Masterson, labeled as a Sergeant in the mod, appeared in the 1.0 single player but not as a playable character. He has no description or portrait because of this.
![]()
In 2.0 and 2.1 with the single player being removed he went unused.
In the 2.5 release a different clone of him was added as a playable character. His model and textures were updated to be in the new visual style.

Police Sgt. Davin

Character
DRF Commando
The mod featured some generic soldier characters that didn’t get any characterization and were thus unused in the final game. They were introduced in KF Mod 1.0. There was a Normal, Black, and Urban variant.

Soldier_Black
Soldier_Urban
Portrait shared between the three of them.
In the 2.0 release of the mod, the model was updated. Soldier_Black and Solider_Urban were broken with their textures being removed, but still selectable. The normal Soldier received updated textures.
![]()
In the 2.1 patch, Soldier_Black was fixed to use the texture from Power. Urban remained unfinished.
![]()
In the 2.5 release, Soldier_Urban finally got new textures, they all also received a new portrait. The broken NameTag texture was changed to just be a static texture of a nametag for PVT. Jim. Interestingly, there is an unused camo gas mask texture.
Soldier_Urban(2.0)
Updated portrait for all of them.
Unused camo gas mask.
Unused Soldier_Urban portrait.
They all remained unchanged in 2.51. However a 4th variant was added into the files using its own model. It was only called Horzine so it would of presumably been called Soldier_Horzine. Only the model exists, no textures.

Sergeant Kara Barnes
A cut character from the final game named Kara is in the mod. She was introduced in the 2.0 release.
