How to Get New Cosmetics in Killing Floor 2
In Killing Floor 2, there are tons of skins and cosmetics you can give your character. You can equip them with a new pair of sunglasses, a new mask, a backpack, or even a simple baseball hat. Whatever your style, there’s probably a cosmetic for it.
There are a few different ways you can get your hands on some cosmetics, whether you’re just looking to add a new skin to your favorite Killing Floor 2 weapon, or if you want to obtain a completely new look for your character.
Cosmetics Through the Store
The easiest method you can use to get some cosmetics is by purchasing them through the Store. You can find this in the main menu, next to your inventory. In this section, you can find a ton of different cosmetic items that will help you customize your character in this difficult co-op game.
Keep in mind that some of these cosmetics will be a bit pricey and will cost real money. A single mask can go for $9.99, but there are also cosmetic bundles that contain a multitude of items and go for a better price if you’re looking to get multiple items at once.
What you can buy:
- Character skins and outfits
- Weapon skins
- Masks and headgear
- Backpacks and accessories
- Emotes (see our emotes guide)
- Cosmetic bundles (best value)
Cosmetics Through Drops
Another easy way to get some cosmetics (and this time for free) is by receiving them through daily drops. Every day when you play in medium or long matches, which can also help you to level up in Killing Floor 2, you have a chance to receive cosmetic items as rewards.
How it works:
- Play medium or long matches (not short ones)
- Complete matches to increase your chances
- Drops are random—you might get something awesome or something common
- There’s no particular method you need to use or map you need to visit to take advantage of drops in Killing Floor 2
Pro tip: All you need to do is participate in as many matches as you can in one day, and you’ll eventually get some drops. The more you play, the more chances you have.
Cosmetics Through Crafting
To get new cosmetic items out of old items, you can recycle them and craft new cosmetics. This is perfect if you have a bunch of items you don’t want cluttering your inventory.
How to craft:
- Head to your inventory
- Locate the item you want to recycle under Cosmetics
- Choose the “Recycle” option
- Once you have recycled at least 10 unwanted items and have received the required amount of Common Cosmetic Material, go to the Crafting section in your inventory
- Choose Cosmetic Crafting at the top
- Select what you want to craft and use your materials
What you need:
- At least 10 recycled items to get Common Cosmetic Material
- The required amount of materials for the cosmetic you want to craft
- Patience—crafting takes time, but it’s worth it if you have unwanted items
Cosmetics Through Trading
The last method you can use is trading. However, with this method, you’ll have to sell one of your own items or cosmetics in return for someone else’s cosmetic. The best place to find some items that you might want to trade is the Steam trading forum or the Steam Marketplace.
How trading works:
- You list your item for trade on Steam
- Other players can see your listing and make offers
- You accept or decline offers based on what you want
- Once you agree, the trade happens automatically through Steam
Outside of recycling items for crafting, this is the best way to clean out your inventory of items you no longer want in return for some cosmetics. This will take some more time than other methods, however, since it is a co-op game and you’ll need to find someone who wants what you have.
Which Method Should You Use?
For beginners:
- Start with daily drops—they’re free and you’ll get items just by playing
- Try crafting if you have unwanted items cluttering your inventory
For veterans:
- Use the Store for specific items you really want
- Trade items you don’t need for items you do need
- Craft rare items from common materials
For collectors:
- Combine all methods—drops for common items, Store for rare bundles, trading for specific pieces, and crafting for everything else
Tips for Getting the Best Cosmetics
- Play regularly — The more you play, the more drops you’ll get
- Save your materials — Don’t craft everything immediately; wait until you have enough for something really good
- Check the Store regularly — New bundles and items are added frequently
- Be patient with trading — Good trades take time, but they’re worth it
- Don’t spend all your money — Some cosmetics are expensive; make sure you really want them before buying
