Killing Floor Terminology: Player Dictionary

Complete dictionary of terms and slang used in the Killing Floor community.

Basic Terms

Zed — general name for all mutants (specimens) in the game. Derived from the word “zombie”.

Specimen — official name for mutants in the game. Genetically modified clones.

Wave — round of the game during which players must destroy a certain number of zeds.

Trader — NPC that appears between waves and sells weapons, ammunition, and armor.

Perk — character class (Sharpshooter, Commando, Support, etc.) that determines player specialization.

Patriarch — final boss of the game, appears on the last wave.

Classes (Perks)

Sharpshooter — class specializing in long-range weapons and precise headshots.

Commando — class specializing in automatic weapons and detecting stalkers.

Support Specialist — class specializing in shotguns and welding doors.

Berserker — melee class using melee weapons.

Firebug — class using flamethrowers and incendiary devices.

Demolitions — class specializing in explosives.

Field Medic — support class specializing in healing allies.

Mutants (Specimens)

Clot — basic mutant, the most common. Slow but dangerous in groups.

Crawler — spider-like mutant that moves low to the ground. Very fast.

Gorefast — clot with a blade welded to its arm. Fast and dangerous in close combat.

Stalker — invisible female mutant. Can become invisible.

Bloat — obese mutant that shoots toxic bile. Explodes on death.

Siren — female mutant with a devastating sonic scream. Can destroy grenades.

Husk — cyborg mutant with a flamethrower instead of an arm. Dangerous at long range.

Scrake — tall muscular mutant with a chainsaw. Very resistant to damage.

Fleshpound — massive mutant with industrial grinders instead of hands. The most dangerous regular mutant.

Game Mechanics

Rage — state that Scrake and Fleshpound enter when taking damage. They start running fast and attacking.

ZEDtime — time slowdown that activates when killing a zed in the head. Allows seeing kill details.

Welding — process of sealing doors with a welding tool to create barricades.

Weight — system limiting the amount of weapons a player can carry. Each weapon has its own weight.

Dosh — in-game currency earned by killing zeds and completing tasks.

Tactical Terms

Kiting — tactic of retreating and shooting at pursuing zeds.

Camping — tactic of holding a specific position and defending against advancing zeds.

Holding — team holding a specific position.

Rage Management — tactic of controlling the rage state of Scrake and Fleshpound.

Headshot — shot to the head dealing increased damage.

Body Shot — shot to the body dealing normal damage.

Community Slang

FP — Fleshpound.

SC — Scrake.

Husk Fireball — fireball fired by Husk.

Bile — toxic bile shot by Bloat.

Scream — sonic scream of Siren that can destroy grenades and deal damage.

Cloak — Stalker’s ability to become invisible.

Rage — rage state of large zeds.

Big Zed — Scrake or Fleshpound.

Trash — weak mutants (Clot, Crawler, Gorefast).

Spec — Specimen (mutant).

Server Terms

Mutator — game modification that changes gameplay.

Custom Map — user-created map made by the community.

Server Perks — perk progression system that works on the server, not through Steam.

Sandbox — game mode with customizable wave and mutant parameters.

Whitelisted Mutator — official mutator that allows perk progression.

Graylisted Mutator — mutator that doesn’t allow perk progression but allows selecting them.

Technical Terms

Package — game resource file (textures, sounds, animations, etc.).

Mismatch — error of version mismatch between client and server packages.

Cache — temporary storage of downloaded server resources.

UKX — Unreal Engine animation file format.

UTX — Unreal Engine texture file format.

UAX — Unreal Engine sound file format.

USX — Unreal Engine static mesh file format.

UC — UnrealScript source code.

U — compiled UnrealScript package.
