    Killing Floor server browser

Looking for active Killing Floor servers you can actually join today? This page is a quick “server browser manual” with the most common ways players find servers, plus a live list of our community servers.

If you’re already playing on our servers, you can also use this page as a bookmark when you reinstall the game or switch PCs.

What you will get on this page

    • A live list of our servers with IPs you can copy
    • The fastest ways to join (Favorites first, then alternatives)
    • A short troubleshooting section for the classic KF problems: missing servers, slow downloads, cache conflicts

Fast ways to find and join servers

    • Open Killing Floor.
    • Go to the server browser.
    • Add a server IP address to Favorites.
    • Join, then wait for server files to download (usually up to ~5 minutes on first join).

On our network, after you enter one server, the rest of our servers are typically added to Favorites automatically.

1.1) Direct connect via console (most reliable when the browser is buggy)

Killing Floor is old-school, and the server browser can be moody. Direct connect is the “no drama” option:

    1. Open the in-game console (how to enable it varies by settings).
    2. Use:
    open <IP>:<PORT>

If you already joined a server and got kicked, the fastest re-join is often:

    reconnect

If you do not know the port, use the exact address shown in the server list above.

What to expect on the first join (especially on community servers)

If a server uses custom content (maps/mutators/configs), your client will download files the first time you join.

    • This is normal for community servers.
    • If you interrupt the download, joining again may restart part of it.
    • If you join servers often, consider keeping cache longer so you do not re-download the same files (see the optimization guide below).

How downloads work (what is being downloaded, and where it goes)

On community servers you usually download:

    • custom maps
    • server packages (mutators, resources, configs that the server requires)

Most of it is cached locally. Over time you can run into two typical “old KF” situations:

    • slow first join because you are missing content (normal)
    • package conflicts because you have an older version of the same package cached (fixable)

If you see mismatch errors, start here:

    2) Search by name (works, but less reliable)

Search results depend on filters and server browser quirks. If you can’t find a server by name, use Favorites/IP instead.

    3) Use external server lists

Some players prefer external lists like GameTracker. You can also add our servers to Favorites there:

    ”I can’t see servers” — quick checklist

    • Reset filters: remove region/map filters, show non-empty servers, show passwordless servers.
    • Refresh and sort: sometimes sorting by ping or players “wakes up” the list.
    • Try Favorites/IP: if the server exists, IP/Favorites works even when the browser search is buggy.
    • Let downloads finish: on modded servers, the first join includes downloading content.
    • Cache conflicts: if you get package mismatch errors, use the fix guide below.

Deeper troubleshooting (when the checklist is not enough)

Browser is empty or shows only a few servers

    Try this order:

    1. Reset filters and refresh a few times.
    2. Sort by players and ping once (it can force a refresh).
    3. Use Favorites or direct console connect.

If you have one working server IP, you do not need the in-game list at all.

Join starts but fails after a long “Connecting…”

    This is usually either:

    • download still in progress (wait once)
    • cache/package conflict (fix by clearing cache)
    • unstable connection during download (try again after the first full download completes)

Optimization page (helps reduce repeated downloads):

    FAQ (quick answers)

    Is this “official” or “community”?

Our servers are community-run. That usually means more modes, more progression, and custom content, but also first-join downloads and stricter rules.

Why is ping high in the browser?

The in-game browser is not always precise. Use ping as a rough indicator, then test by joining.

    Are community servers “safe”?

In practice, “modded/community” usually means custom maps and packages, not anything shady. The most common issue is just old client cache conflicts (mismatch), which is easy to fix.

Why do I get “Package version mismatch”?

It’s usually a cache conflict (old file versions stored by the client). Use the dedicated fix:

    How do I reduce re-downloads?

Increase cache retention in KillingFloor.ini (safe tweak) and keep your cache from being purged too quickly:
