Fleshpound

Small caliber weapons will only make it angry — bring the big guns.

Description

Fleshpound is a large and extremely dangerous monster. It has two metal clubs for hands, and a lamp in its abdomen that indicates its state: yellow when calm, red when enraged. When calm, it moves slowly — but once enraged, it charges forward, knocking down everything in its way (even other specimens).

Behavior

Interesting

In some situations (for example, if you’re surrounded), you can use an enraged Fleshpound as a weapon: make it angry while other specimens stand between you and it — and it will turn them into mince.

Combat tactics

Always kill Fleshpounds first. The simplest and most effective strategy is for the entire team to focus-fire with the most powerful weapons.

Berserkers can sometimes kill a Fleshpound without enraging it by hitting its head with an Axe and carefully dodging its club swings. This is difficult and requires practice.

If you’re a Sharpshooter, shoot first: your shots can heavily weaken the Fleshpound, and with enough skill you can kill it solo.

As a Medic, you can save teammates by acting as a living shield in the path of an approaching Fleshpound.

If you are running from an enraged Fleshpound, don’t attack it — otherwise it may immediately enrage again. When it gets close, try to jump away to reduce the damage you take.

Background

Fleshpounds were the children of Horzine’s super-soldier project. Constant injections of muscle-growth stimulants and adrenaline cocktails gave them titanic strength, but caused explosive temper and extreme cruelty.

After several tragic incidents, every Fleshpound received an implanted device that indicates the adrenaline level in the blood and injects sedatives and other substances to keep them calm.

The project was deemed a failure, and the entire population was sent to the deepest level of Horzine laboratories. When it was time to destroy them, the chemicals used for that activated their devices — allowing Fleshpounds to break free and slaughter the lab personnel. Although they could not remove the metal shackles to expose their huge fists, the shackles still help them beat the life out of anything that moves.
